Marin Fencing Academy
Owner, Coach, and Board of Directors
827 Fourth Street, San Rafael, CA. 94901
www.marinfencing.com
In 2006 I opened the Marin Fencing Academy, LLC. MFA had been in existence for 25 years in various iterations. The creation of the LLC, and our subsequent growth into a full time facility in Marin County, California, has created one of the largest fencing academies in the US.
Currently at about 100 members, from ages 6 to 84, we teach Olympic Foil, Epee, and Saber for recreational and nationally competitive fencers.
Our coaching staff consists of internationally and nationally rated Maestros and Moniteurs.I teach night classes and classes on Saturdays. I’ve designed and built our online digital programs, and produced our 15 minute short documentary and 60 second commercial.
Honored to work with Maestra Dorina Vaccaroni from Italy, 4-time Olympian, gold, silver, and bronze, and 5-time world cup holder.
Platforms and Tools
I’m platform agnostic for me and my teams. It’s easier to learn a new platform than it is to find someone that can learn. Of late I have had a lot of success (and fun) working with various AI platforms, designing, and building several conversational agents for several of our clients.
My main hands-on focus has been building POCs and MVP applications using Microsoft Azure cloud, Cognitive Services, Co-Pilot, Power Apps, specifically Virtual Agents and Power Automate. I have integrated these agents with OpenAI 4.0, creating a seamless conversation with custom LLM infused by teaching the AI specific content relative to the company and its clients.
Other example AI platforms: KoreAI, Clinc, Concerto, IBM Watson, Google AI
In more classical development consulting projects, my clients and teams have utilized the following.
Azure Cloud, Co-Pilot, Power Virtual Agents, Power Automate, React Native, Revision control (SVN, Git, Mercurial, CVS), Axure (for UX, prototyping and functional documentation), Databases (MS SQL Server, Oracle, MySql, NoSql), Sharepoint, CMS (Interwoven Teamsite, Ektron, Magnolia, Drupal, WordPress, Fatwire), .NET, Visual Studios, Java,C#, ASP.NET, C++, Objective C,, Flash, Flex, Facebook graph API, Google Map API, Google Analytics API, Websphere, HTML, XML, CSS, JS, XSLT, Photoshop, PowerPoint, MS Project and Visio
Personal
I grew up outside Boston, MA where most of my family still resides. I worked extensively throughout Europe and Asia, based out of Stockholm, SE, Cambridge, MA (USA), Santa Barbara, CA (USA) and various places in between. I’ve been a competitive skier, now a snow boarder since the age of 30. I was a good golfer (handicap about 8) at one time, needing to take up the linx again soon. I’m passionate about my fencing academy, and the 90 something fencers, mostly kids, who gain so much because of it. I compete nationally and have a C rating in Epee as well as being a certified coach with USA Fencing. I live in Marin County. I love gadgets (hence my technology roots). I adopted the post pandemic remote work style long before the pandemic, and now see a hybrid work environment as the most efficient use of my people’s time.
